For 40 years, Oleg Skrypka and Vopli Vidopliassova (VV) have led the sound of modern Ukrainian music. Born in Soviet Kyiv’s underground scene, VV fused punk, folk, and art-rock into a revolutionary voice for a new generation. They pioneered Ukrainian-language rock and helped shape Eastern European ethnic rock on the international stage.
VV was the first Ukrainian band to tour globally, building a multi-generational following across Europe and North America. Frontman Oleg Skrypka is hailed as the "Godfather of Ukrainian Rock," and artists like Eugene Hutz of Gogol Bordello call VV his artistic “teachers.”
Their collaborations span genres and continents—Manu Chao, Khaled, Gogol Bordello, Hazmat Modine, Lemon Bucket Orkestra, and Les Hurlements d'Léo. From WOMAD and Sziget to Montreux, VV’s high-energy shows are cultural celebrations of joy, rebellion, and resilience.
